Oromo Coffee Roasters is a specialty coffee brand celebrating the rich heritage of Ethiopian coffee culture and the art of craft roasting. The brand needed packaging that would stand out on crowded shelves while telling the authentic story of each bean’s journey from East African highlands to the cup.
The Brief
The client needed packaging for their new product line that would clearly communicate premium quality, provenance, and craft roasting credentials. The design had to compete confidently in the specialty coffee market while remaining deeply authentic to the brand’s East African roots and heritage.
Packaging is the first handshake between a product and its customer — it must be warm, confident, and memorable.
We researched the specialty coffee packaging landscape extensively, identifying a clear opportunity to stand apart through bold typography and rich illustration rather than the minimalist approach that currently dominates the premium sector. The design language draws from traditional Ethiopian artistic motifs, reinterpreted through a contemporary lens.

Our Approach
Material selection was integral to the design process. We specified matte-finish substrates with spot-gloss accents that invite touch, and structured the information hierarchy to guide the consumer naturally from brand story to roast profile to brewing recommendations.
The Result
The packaging received strong retail reception, with several specialty stores featuring Oromo as a visual centrepiece in their coffee sections. Consumer feedback consistently highlighted the packaging as a key factor in initial purchase decisions, validating the investment in design that tells a genuine story.
